The Experience
Your day begins at 9:00 AM, when your driver-guide meets you at your hotel in or around Beaune — or at the Dijon station, if you've taken a morning TGV down from Paris. From there you head straight into the vines.
The morning runs up the Côte de Nuits, the narrow band of slopes behind Burgundy's greatest reds, through villages like Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. You'll stop at the stone marker of Romanée-Conti — the most coveted plot of vines in the world — and visit a private cellar to see how the wine is made, before settling in for your first tasting.
Midday is a relaxed lunch at a traditional Burgundy restaurant, included in your tour. Only wine and any menu supplements — a steak in place of the chicken, say — are paid on site.
In the afternoon you move south into the Côte de Beaune, home to the world's benchmark whites around Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chassagne-Montrachet, with further tastings at authentic, family-run estates chosen for the quality of their wine and their welcome.
Throughout the day, your driver-guide — an expert in vines and wine — shares the region's terroirs, its UNESCO-listed climats, and the village–Premier Cru–Grand Cru system that maps the slope plot by plot. You're back at your hotel, or the Dijon station, by around 5:30 PM.
