Your Normandy Experience
Day One: Mont Saint-Michel
Your guide collects you at your Paris hotel and drives you to Mont Saint-Michel. You tour the abbey and the village below, with lunch planned at the legendary Mère Poulard or a nearby restaurant with views of the Mont. Check in for four nights at Château Saint-Gilles, a spa hotel amid farmland outside Bayeux with on-site treatments, a working vegetable garden and an orchard.
Day Two: The American June 6 Story
Drive to Sainte-Mère-Église, where the pre-dawn parachute drops began the longest day. See Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, with a stop at a humble café near Utah where veterans have signed the walls over the decades. Lunch is suggested at La Trinquette on the coast. The afternoon covers Arromanches Harbor and Pointe du Hoc, finishing at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, timed for the flag-lowering ceremony. If you have a family connection to the battle, let us know and your guide will highlight it.
Day Three: Bayeux, Calvados and Camembert
Morning walking tour of Bayeux, then inland to Pont-l'Évêque and Cormeilles. Lunch at Crêperie Bar Mont Mirel. Visit the Busnel tasting room, a 200-year-old Calvados distillery in the Pays d'Auge, then an AOC Camembert dairy farm outside the village of Camembert. Neufchâtel or Pont-l'Évêque can be substituted, and the day can be shortened for a spa treatment at your hotel.
Day Four: Rouen
Morning drive to Rouen for a walking tour of the medieval quarter: the cathedral Monet painted over and over, and the story of Joan of Arc, burned at the stake here in 1431. Lunch at Brasserie Paul, a local institution since 1898. Afternoon tour of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, then return to your Bayeux hotel.
Day Five: Giverny and Paris
Drive to Giverny and tour Claude Monet's house and gardens. Lunch at Le Jardin des Plumes, next to the gardens. Afternoon drive to Paris and a visit to the Musée de la Libération, dedicated to the Resistance and life under the occupation; the Musée d'Orsay or Louvre can be substituted. Drop-off at your Paris hotel.
